Personally, I don't think being drafted for 3 months for no reason would make me feel proud of my country.
lol 3 months. try 9-14 months depending on what service you've been selected for.
One does wonder what kind of meaningful skill they think they can impart on you lot in that time frame - heck even cub scouts will have had more training.
Don't blame me, I voted for Ron Paul.
I don't mean to sound like a negative Nancy here, but isn't this video from the same people who said they were making coffins for us citizens Bush had killed secretly, and that he was going to use his powers to make himself a dictator before he left office, and rule us as a tyrant? I'd take it with a grain of salt. Mostly what the guy wanted was probably publicity, and the thing that sells is controversy so he writes this book that's bound to get noticed because it's controversial, and now two years later he has a high level government job. I'm pretty sure even Obama could get impeached over something like this if enough people opposed it.
Article copied from a site this was posted from so you can see how "reliable" it is.
Barak Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel discusses his book The Plan in which he outlines a mandatory civil service requirement for all Americans from ages 18 to 25.
“You look at WWII that was a draft. This is not a draft it is universal service.” says Emanuel about his mandatory 3 month civil service training program.
Barack Obama spoke about the national security force he would like to see created while campaigning in the 2008 presidential election season.
“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” - Barack Obama July 2, 2008
What people are doing is combing the 2 things together rather than treating them as 2 separate statements. Emanuel wants a mandatory universal force, and so far all Barack has said is that we need a civilian one to help pick up slack. Now whether he means it's like military light (less stringent requirements, still volunteer, shorter rotations ect), or not I think it might be alarmist to put the two together in the worst way so far. I think it certainly bears watching, but for the moment I can't really just go ZOMGOSH NO A DRAFT NOT FARE!

those borders are looking a lot sexier
Again this was made in 2006 way before Obama was even really in the running for president, and not only that, but the "capital news" caption is fake: there is no such things as "capital news" on cspan to my knowledge. Again I think he just wanted money from selling a book. There are more guns in civilian hands than you could simply deal with. If this passed I'm pretty sure they'd be lynched in short order for going against America, and it's volunteering ways. Plus don't we already have something like he's talking about? The Militia's?
When faced with a similar economic depression, President Hoover pushed for federally funded public service. The Emergency Relief and Construction Act of 1932, which significantly expanded the federal government’s involvement in volunteerism, provided $1.5 billion in 1932 dollars in temporary loans to public service organizations.
Although much of the controversy around HR 1388 has been around mandatory service requirements for American youth, the larger issue is tying federal dollars into public service. The act will actually create government funded jobs making participating states and organizations permanently dependent on federal funding for their service activities. Hoover understood that and called his act a government jobs program, recognizing the potential to end real voluntary public service through federal funding. The possibility of mandatory youth service requirements has not disappeared under the Obama administration.
Basically it gives financial incentives to kids who join up for a bit (basically it's a military light we give you 1500 dollars for your college books this year, random number, and you give us 2 months of volunteer work later when school is out kind of deal. I haven't gone over the rest with a fine tooth comb yet, but I don't see mandatory draft here. It's basically trying to get a lot of jobs created to help the economy aimed at virtually every age group, and part of the population. You don't have to participate you simply get money for doing so. It also doesn't have to be military options that's simply the most obvious, and controversial. I'll post more when I read more.
In order to stabilize an economy when in a "recession" you don't raise taxes and let the government spend money. You leave it up to the American People by cutting taxes and allowing them to build up economic inflation. Basically Screwing over the "rich" people was a mistake because #1, If rich people decide they don't need that extra boat or house, that hurts the low paged worker working those jobs. And eventually The rich individuals will start to leave America because of the rising taxes on them and when there are no more rich people outputting a lot of money into the economy, well then we are pretty much screwed.
