    Level 1 Hit Ratings

Thought it might be helpful to calculate the miss chances / mob level. The formula is simple:

    1) Figure the mobs defense level [mob level * 5]
    2) Plug in you weapon skill [level 1 maxes at 5]
    3) Follow 1 of these formulas:

If the difference between the mobs defense and your weapon skill is 10 or less (level 3 mob or lower):

single wield: 5% (base miss rate) + [ (mob defense - your weapon skill) * .1%]

dual wield: 24% (dual wield incurs an additional 19% hit penalty per hand) + [ (mob defense - your weapon skill) * .1%]

If the difference between the mobs defense and your weapon skill is 11 or more (level 4 mob or higher):

    single wield: 6% (base miss rate) + [ (mob defense - your weapon skill - 10) * .4%]

dual wield: 25% (dual wield incurs an additional 19% hit penalty per hand) + [ (mob defense - your weapon skill - 10) * .4%]

What's this mean? Assuming maxed weapon skill (5/5) and 0 hit rating, you will miss x% of your special attacks (Sinister Strike, Heroic Strike, etc...) based on mob level. Logically, you need +hit to miss less with your special attacks:

Mob Level 1: 5% single wield / 24% dual wield
    Mob Level 5: 10% / 29%
    Mob Level 8: 16% / 35%
    Mob Level 12: 24% / 43%
    Mob Level 15: 30% / 49%
    Mob Level 18: 36% / 55%
    Mob Level 22: 44% / 63%
    Mob Level 25: 50% / 69%
    Mob Level 28: 56% / 75%
    Mob Level 30: 60% / 79%
    Mob Level 32: 64% / 83%
    Mob Level 35: 70% / 89%
    Mob Level 38: 76% / 92%
    Mob Level 40: 80% / 99%
    Mob Level 42: 84% / 103%
    Mob Level 45: 90% / 109%
    Mob Level 48: 96% / 115%
    Mob Level 50: 100% / 119%

These numbers are for special attacks only. White damage % are much higher because of how combat on auto attack is resolved in the combat table

EDIT: These numbers only show your chance to miss your target with a special attack. Once your attack has been successfully made, it is subject to the combat table (i.e. Dodge, Parry, Block, etc...) Just because you successfully hit your target, doesn't mean it will take damage.

EDIT: I am unclear as to how Blizz handles miss % over 100. I think PVE is different than PVP because I can hit a lvl80 player and do dmg to them.

EDIT: The highest level of mob you can hit with full hit gear (no seasonal buffs) 100% is level 7-9 (SW) or 0 (DW) (depending on class)

The highest level of mob you can hit with full hit gear and either Midsummer or Hallow's End buff 100% is level 33-36 (SW) or 26-27 (DW) (depending on class)

The highest level of mob you can hit with full hit gear and Love is in the Air buff 100% is 46-48 (SW) or 38-39 (DW) (depending on class)

Here lies the problem...very little +Hit. The short list (which is also the complete list )

It seems that 1 hit rating = 2.6% hit at level 1

[Scroll of Enchant Boots - Lesser Accuracy] - adds 13% hit

[Stained Shadowcraft Tunic] - adds 2.6% hit

[Grand Staff of Jordan] - adds 2.6% hit

Dark Desire - adds 78% (only obtainable during Love Is In The Air holiday event...disappears after 10 days)

Fire-toasted Buns - adds 52% (only obtainable during
Midsummer holiday event...disappears after 14 days)

Chewy Fel Taffy - adds 13% It can however stack up to 4 times for a total of 52% (only obtainable during Hallow's End holiday event...disappears after 14 days)

What this means is that PvE is at its best for 5.5 weeks during the year. Most twinks will max out at 15.6% at all other times (except for druids, shamans, warriors, and hunters who could hit 18.2% with both heirloom pieces)

Thats why raiding during hween is so nice 52% more hit from those candies.

EDIT: Interresting to see how the miss rate keeps increasing by more and more for each 3rd lvl and not increase by the same amount all over.

btw cant warriors and shamans stack hit til 18.6 all the time too? Use leather chest and staff

Imo the jordan staff is a great warrior wep

In general the 2h weilders has some nice weapons. 1 crit wep, 1 arm pen wep and 1 hit wep.

Good question and is ranged and spells the same shit? Had a warlock and a mage in my raid last saturday, Would like to know if they get the same effect from 52% hit candies as the 8 other rogues did.
Btw someone sticky this in the odd ball section please.

Chubs could you add some more lvls to your list, go til 35 or something. Since mobs up to 30 is actually killable, we've attempted it.

To my knowledge 2H is figured the same as 1H Single Wield

is ranged and spells the same
No...Spell Hit is affected by the hit foods for sure, but the miss chance is much higher! Without putting the formulas in, an example is that at level 5, a single wield has a 90% chance to hit their target with melee. A level 1 caster only has a 61%. This just confirms that damage caster level 1 twinks are not viable.

Chubs could you add some more lvls to your list, go til 35 or something.
Fixed to level 50. At that point the % all go over 100 and I don't know how Blizz resolves those.

Any chance you could make a PvP hit rating shit also? Would like to see how necessary 5 hit is in PvP/How high lvls we can fight while being capped.

EDIT: Thanks though! Druidroid STICKY THIS in the not cliche section

5 hit rating for a mage is 16,25%. Maybe they are more viable than we think seeing they get more hit % from hit rating than other classes. Let me straighten that up. Cast hit gives more % than meele.
20 spell hit is 65%. Which is as much as 25 meele hit. During valentine casters will get 97,5% hit chance with the 30 hit ratin candies. another 16,25 will be added from boot enchants.

I'm not ignoring you ... having trouble finding correct formulas for spell hit.

It's confirmed that casters do gain more benefit from +hit, but they do have higher % to miss than melee, and that PvP / PvE are different.

The only info I can find is a chart that shows +/- 4 levels ... but no formula to do the math with. I'm workin on it though
