More information about the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby is now available, and you may want to read up on it!
The all-new Kalu’ak Fishing Derby, a test of fishing skill with a healthy dash of luck, has come to Northrend! Every Wednesday beginning at 8 PM players can try to catch the elusive Blacktip Shark. Elder Clearwater sits in Dalaran for one hour awaiting the return of the quickest, most experienced fisher to bring him this shark. This champion fisher will be rewarded in-kind for returning with the first catch. Those who aren’t able to return with the first catch will still receive just reward for getting the Blacktip Shark to Elder Clearwater before he takes his leave. It is said that these sharks’ favorite meal are the bite-sized Pygmy Suckerfish. Perhaps a hook in their waters will do the trick.
The official notes don’t give away clues about the reward, but Warcraft twitter does:
“Preparations for a fishing derby in Northrend are well underway by the Kalu’ak. Up for grabs – a new heirloom ring!”
Not too long ago Bibi datamined a new Heirloom EXP Bonus, perhaps it belongs to this ring?

The quest that lets you turn in the first Blacktip Shark is called Soul of the Kalu’ak. You can pick one of two rewards, either the presumable Heirloom Ring or a pair of Cloth Boots. I expect those boots will be an upgraded version of Nat Pagle’s Extreme Anglin’ Boots. It’s weird that there’s only one Ring as a reward, because it’d have to give stats that benefit every class. Perhaps it’ll give hit and crit. Keep in mind that this is all speculation, and nothing has been confirmed yet. I’ll keep you updated, though!

This is particularly interesting because as it seems there may be no level requirement to turn it in, meaning people without 80’s may be able to get an heirloom.
true, but getting around northrend without high level friends will be a pain. Ghostwalking only gets you so far, even when you know how to do it right.
The fact is it may be possible.
awsome. as a reward to all you twinks who spent months fishing for the boots, only to have them nerfed..
(for me, 29 consecutive weeks only to have them nerfed 5 days after i got them)
now you can have all that “fun time stuff” all over again.. woot
Apparently it says you need to fish a Blacktip shard, I said “a”, one ? so it’s a rare fish like the bootybay contest ? so this contest only relies on LUCK, and will probably end a few seconds after starting… by the first lucky bastard who drop it, sorry to be crude…
People with a 280% mount will have a very slight edge but nothing utter either. I remain convinced that only the first two pools will determined the winner wish is totally absurd…
Don’t dare call that fish contest, please remain respectfull to players and call that “RNG contest”, who was the biggest ****.
This is a 100% RNG contest. Us twinks will never see the color of this item, trust me, at least not the highest twinks in the food chain. I will however do everything that is in my power to get my hands on it, I wont say more…. But RNG has never been in my side, I hate it as my worst ennemy… I hate blizzard for making it that way instead of 40 fish, and making the player pacified when they fish a school during the contest would solve the pvp shit, but no they prefer boring us again with their RNG stuff, and only the luckiest bastards will get it…
Imagine on a us server with 30k people, just make rand 30000, and hope you score 30000, if you are too weak to do that, as I am, you will never see this item ever.
So guys no need to shoot “oh great” etc… I see the shit miles away…
That’s why people complaining about the time are hillarious, the contest start a 8:00, so it ends at 8:01, so what you can start raiding at 8:02… lmao stop complaining for nothing you jerks….
As for Grunge, you can fish in northrend as a level 1, without dying once beside pvp possibilities, get some immaginations but just make rand 30k, and hope to score 30k, that’s the only way you’ll get it…
It illustrate the point, people with the most immagination, let’s say, someone who study the best spots for the most fishing pools, like using a chrono to figure out what parts of northrend spawn the most pools in the sortest range, will not be rewarded, only a random dude, with no immagination will get it… You can’t possibly call that contest…
Sry for double posting.
Both contest are the worst thing blizzard has ever created… One is a pvp fest, “only the penitent man will pass”. The other one is a RNG fest. “Only in the leap from the lion’s head will he prove his worth”…
