My 1st character was a Night Elf Druid, but I quickly switched sides to horde when I realized that my RL friends couldn’t hit me up with the goldz cross faction. Since then, I have mainly been horde. I have rolled a few ally twinks, but I am HORDE! Now my mistakes can be corrected by Blizzard with the Faction Change service Blizzard has teased us with recently.
I was reading wow.com this morning and they had a poll up asking what faction you choose. Well, we all know that the Alliance should get the nod since it seems that Alliance outnumbers Horde 2:1 almost everywhere. I thought today would be a good day to see how many would take advantage of this new service.
Loading …Personally, I can’t wait. I have stopped playing my Alliance lock pretty much because I can’t get him BoA gear and such. Now that I can bring him home to the Horde, he’ll be all BoA’ed out and ready for action as soon as the service is available.
This brings another subject up though. Do you think Blizzard is getting carried away with “Paid Services” like this? Will Blizz be selling gold before too long? How about a “Tier 9.5 Armor Service”? I am happy with the faction service, but when is too far, too far?

Horde outnumber Alliance on my server 3:1 or 4:1 its quite lopsided. I thought this was how it was everywhere else but you say normally alliance outnumbers horde eh?
Take a look at (http://www.warcraftrealms.com/realmstats.php?sort=Ratio) my assumption looks to be off a little, but still there are a lot of realms with ally:horde being high.

I don’t think I will ever switch factions, horde 4 life – or I will roll a new alliance character and level them by myself. This is a neat little service, and if I had friends who played alliance, I would consider it.
I was all for the name changing service, some people pick stupid names and if they want to change it, they should be able to. I also agreed with the Server transfer – why shouldn’t you be able to choose a new home?
The sex change caught me by surprise…I was not expecting it, and I hated it 100% as soon as I saw it. But after a while, it grew on me – and I could see the benefit for some. I know a couple women who play the game and rolled male tauren (shamans mostly…) and got switched to female after the change.
This faction change didn’t surprise me too much, blizzard just keeps coming up with ways to make people pay them more money. Changing races totally is kind of gimpy…How on earth is a Tauren warrior going to turn into a gnome warrior? -.-
What I would have agreed with however, would have been a “Real Faction Switch.” For example: You are a troll shaman, and have had it with the hordes cruel intentions towards every living creature, so you abandon the horde – and join the alliance – BUT YOU ARE STILL A TROLL.
If ^THIS^ is how they did it…I’d be in love. It would take me like 2 minutes to re-roll a gnome so I could faction switch to horde ^_^ Evil little horde gnome rogue? Yes please <3
As for the future ’services’ no, I do not believe this is the end. I would really really be disappointed if blizzard starts selling gold. Or if they sell items – and I believe it would result in a hell of a lot of people quitting, myself included.
I imagine they will add more services, and it’s only a matter of time before they do. I fear they will make a class change…they have said they would never do this – but they also said you would never be able to change race/faction…so we shall see.

My guess people that choose not to use the service since the question was not what you think of the service. The question in the poll is “Will you use the Faction Change Service when it’s available?“.
mho the prices (charges ?) for changing names, changing servers , (and soon faction czhange, but dont have info about its costs) are way too high.
15 euro (for eu) is a alot, esp if u consider that some mousemover just has to switch 1-2 bytes for doing so. Prices like 5e would be way more fair esp since faction inbalances are mostly blizzards fault (see magtheridon story, they waited like 2 years too long before they reacted)
generally i like the services- but it smells a bit foul seeing how much they demand for it.
e.g moving to a better twink BG would (with 2-.3 twinks + supporting main) costs fast 60e and more .
offering services for items and beyond would totally destroy the core motivation and mechanic of the game. Would render any attempt blizz made vs goldsellers and boosters hillarious hypocritical
personally, i think that blizzard’s fees for character xfer are a little too steep. i can see them charging 25 bucks for a faction xfer, and that’s fine. but it’s about time that a regular character transfer was bumped down to around 10 dollars. come on, 25 is just plain excessive….i already pay 15 a month to play the game, give me a break.
honestly, i’d probably xfer a few of my chars around fairly often if it was only 10 dollars a pop. but 25 is just unnecessarily greedy and i’m not going to waste that much money when in all likelihood the real cost is going to end up to be 50 USD (for the xfer back). straight xfer fees need to go down – there is no reason for them to remain at such a steep price.
Everything they charge money for is an option. So they can charge whatever they want for it with relative impunity. You pay 15 dollars a month to play, you want something extra? Open your wallet, they don’t owe you something just because you want it. By the way, there is a reason they cost so much. People still pay them and they go above and beyond the scope of the game.
I think that every service they offer and will offer will be confined to a ‘cosmetic’ changes. Realm .. check. Name .. check. Race .. check. Offering items or gold for money is a substantive change and actually provides a benefit in game. That’s a line they’ve said they won’t cross.
Clearly blizzard will do anything to make more money with this new edition and they are a company so thats what they should do. I think with all the changes they have added to the game they have become complete sell outs. Everyone go to suggestion forums and ask that they combine all twink battle groups that select to turn xp off. They may charge us but they proven now they will do anything for more money lol.
ummmm, faction and/or race changing is not a “cosmetic” change. racials continue to be one of the most game-breaking “features” in this game in blizzards chosen pvp method (arenas).
i agree with drayner – they’re just going down a slippery slope and don’t seem to really care what the consequences are (not that i really do either). you guys say they won’t “cross the line” of selling gold and items, but some of you are probably forgetting the COUNTLESS times blizzard reiterated OVER AND OVER again that there would *NEVER* be race or faction changes in this game. it was one of the things that blizzard insisted would never happen under any circumstance.
i would not be at all surprised if somewhere down the road gold/items were offered for sale for real money. hell, blizzard already basically does it….the trading card items (that i know a bunch of the suckers on this site pay for) are a perfect example of this. you pay RL money for the card/code, and you get the item in game. so much for not going down the “slippery slope”.

@Situation – Race changing is cosmetic? I see name changing being cosmetic, I see sex change being cosmetic – even faction change. Race change is ONLY cosmetic IF you look at the fact that your graphic changes. No twink is going to be like “Oh hey, I’m bored of gnome I want a troll” It will be “OH hey, I’m a gnome warlock – I need to go orc to get inferno robes”
Faction change is not even close to cosmetic. As Lloyd said, racials – change from boring dwarf racial to undead – hello awesome wotf!

Imo, the paid services that are available in WoW today are no way near too far or crossing some line. The ones available are just very handy and I can’t think of any bad aspects it has brought to the game. It is, as you were writing about Drayner, if they ever implement a gold selling service that it would go too far. Any way to improve your characters gear or attributes (ok races are different, but it’s still fair for all players) through RL money would really destroy many players gameplay experience, and WoW wouldn’t make such a great game. The “illegal” goldselling is bad enough as it is. I really don’t think Blizzard will ever sink that low.
Blizz does alot of things in favor of the palidan, and many “happy” palidans want to express their true sexuality. they can only do this for the large alliance palidan population by letting them switch factions so they can convert to BE males.
so remember many of blizzards changes are palidan biased and based…..explanation….simple

Your all looking at this the wrong way, the entire intent of this was so friends could play together without starting over. Blizz charges the same amount of whatever your currency/rate for every service they do. Please stop QQing over how much money no one is making you pay for any of this in the first place…
PS: Do you think it’ll be pick an available race or races will alter into its most stat consistent counterpart?

Somewhere between BC and WotLK my server noticed we were near 4:1 favoring Alli. I guess the Alli decided to roll Horde alts so their buddies would have someone to play against (I dunno). Once they got tired of leveling their brand new alts they’d switch back to Alliance, luckily a few stayed Horde (woot!)… So were now back to a larger Alliance population, especially with twinks. Hopefully with the chance to hop sides once again, those Alliance kids will want to level the playing field instead of playing lopsided honor-farming BGs. I seriously doubt it as I don’t see any advantage to remove yourself from your clique of convenience.
And here’s something that’s been bugging me about the process… My Tauren Druid can only transfer to Nelf, right? And my Troll Shaman and Orc Shaman can only transfer to a Drainy? Have Blizz released any more specific info on that kind of stuff?
And it’d be awesome to find a way to transfer over, say, a Dwarf hunter changing it to an “Undead hunter.” Start poking around for an exploit.
I think you are going to be able to buy max level or close to max level characters soon. Not at level 80, but maybe when they get to 100. Because what new player is going start fresh to look at level 100 and say, ‘oh that’s easy, from 1 to 100′. But from 80-100, well that’s only 20 levels, that would be easy.
Maybe I’m way off, but I don’t see *too* many twinks using this service. Most twinks I would assume were made with the intent to be twinks, and most *real* twinks min-max so much that if they were the wrong race – they’d reroll the right race.
For level 80s though, I could see this being very widely used. Personally, when I started this game I had no idea what race to pick, I chose one that looked cool – and now I completely regret it. I will be using this service for at least 1 character.
As for this being good/bad for the game.. I think it’s good, but I think it needs to be managed somehow. Maybe have a waiting list for faction changes, only authorize a faction change if there is someone else wishing to switch over as well, keeping balance.
Although since they let us switch sexes, I really don’t see what the big deal is with them letting us switch races within a faction. Honestly, they need to just remove racials from arenas, and let us switch as we see fit. Just keeps their player base happy, and creates revenue for Blizz. What’s the big deal?

Because for all we know, everyone that said yes is Alliance, and everyone that said no is Horde.
I’m personally bringing my Alliance 80s over to horde, but I’m keeping all of my twinks, both Alliance and Horde, where they are, and what faction they are.
I think 29 twinks will be mostly affected seeing as a lot of the BC enchantable items are faction specific.

they does this to solve their own ticket problem.
they got so much population playing this game, they receive too much tickets and thus we are the one getting our times off for thing slike, hey i got this weapon totally by mistake and not because i really wanted to steal it from the guy. can he get it back ?
same happens, they know people who have been playing hordes for 2-3 years and are not really willing to play to level a toon again. when the faction change happens, i’ll use it to switch one of my charcater to the other side. where my friends are playing.
as for prices, i do agree that they are making it quite outstanding… i understand the server change fees, but all the cosmetic fees shouldn’t be higher then 10 bucks. and switching faction should be included in the server change as well !
they should start doing some specials for those who need more then one service at a time.

I will never (say never) switch my horde toons to ally side, but if i can, i will switch my ally toon to horde side.

Lol horde 4 life is my ass. Let me tell ya a lil story. I had attitude like this until they fucked the game up with gayelves. Ally kids started rolling horde and remained lame keep pumping trash to that side up until you can’t say more for any side.
Horde is stick together being a better player/team my ass. Imagine that in my bg hordes SO suck that they deserve to be farmed.
I even have a horde (it was my friend’s char) so sometimes I join and read the chat how pathetic they are. Horde teams look like 70% unskilled lowbies keep writing “chill man” and they just keep jumping down from the gy and die. The twinks going like overraged allies wo any teamplay just to max their frag and fuck the team but who would blame them. Some twinks keep writing on the chat “fucking low levels you screw up our game, it would be 2hr work to level up” but no one cares.
Well hoho I was always a smart guy, that’s why I’m always on the winner side. Maybe horde atm better in your bg but don’t bet on it that it will remain that way …
Is this for real? I mean a change of faction is a BIG step and very complicated.
I mean you have to change your race, that means you will have a new racial, hair style, what about your spells like mage portals? achievements like for the alliance and for the horde, what about exculsive mounts for horde and for alliance? what if I have an exclusive quest for an specific faction in my quest list?
If I have 6 characters in a server and I want to change one to the oposite faction, do I need to change all of them because you can not have members of the oposite faction in one server?
what is going to happen with all my FP? and many many many more questions about this. for me is not going to be possible at least for a while… what do you think about this?
I can’t say I am looking forward to this crap as 1/2 of my friends are leaving as soon as it comes out (in the EU) and half won’t be.
So what do I do?
